5 out of 5 stars sleek, classy design is awesome   February 18, 2008

The Blackberry Pearl 8100 is a very sleek, trim handheld. This phone is an organizer, trendsetter, and techno-saavy combo in one. Once you get a Blackberry Pearl, there's no turning back.

2 out of 5 stars Problematic phone!   February 8, 2008

The smaller size of this popular BlackBerry 8100 Pearl myFaves Phone (T-Mobile)is very nice, but I found basic functionality of this model very poor. Reception didn't compare to other phones I have, and speaker feedback problems never went away despite swapping 4 phones and 2 SIM cards. Voice dialing recognition was useless. I've moved on to a different model....

1 out of 5 stars does this deal exist?   February 1, 2008

Sorry I have to write this review. This is not peticularly about the phone, for I haven'd received this phone yet! I placed an oder in December 2007. But I was told it was delayed. Then I went to approve this delay, saying I still want it. I was told is was delayed again. .. And again. Someday in middle of January 2008, I got an email from Amazon because my order was cancelled!

I went to find another blackberry phone and T-mobile plan, which is almost same thing as the last one, and at Amazon as well. Today I recieved the third email to say my order was delayed. What is the problem of this page? It shows product which doesn't exist at all. How costumer like me who really need a cell phone can trust it??

4 out of 5 stars Great phone   January 1, 2008

I switched from Samsung SPH-i700 Windows Mobile based phone to this one, and I was a little nervous because I was so used to all the features of Windows Mobile (calendar, tasks, etc.) with a full virtual keyboard and handwriting recognition. Once I used the Pearl for a few days, I couldn't be happier! I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile, and haven't noticed any difference in service either. Now I have owned Pearl for over 3 months, and have traveled to some very remote areas in California, but haven't had any trouble whatsoever. I even used the NAVTEQ GPS service with the phone (using a Holux puck), which was fine too.

I like the BlackBerry Desktop Manager a lot better than ActiveSync to sync up my phone with my Outlook data. Also I can do it wirelessly via Bluetooth which is very convenient. I plug in my phone in the breakfast area and my main computer is about 40 feet away with 3 walls and two large areas in between, but it connects every single time without a problem.

My only big complain with the Pearl is that I can't snooze my appointment reminders for longer times. Only three options are 5 mins, 10 mins., and Dismiss. With my Samsung I could snooze my reminders for days if needed, which was quite convenient. For example, I would setup a reminder for my wife's birthday a week before the event. When I saw the reminder, I would snooze it for a week (actual event day). This would give me enough time to shop for a present, and I would get reminded on the day of the event also. I really miss that functionality.

Another minor complain is that the battery cover is very flimsy. This is however not a problem for me because I use the phone with a belt clip that keeps the cover in place.

While I am at it another complain is that the headphone jack is a non-standard one. I have to use an adapter in order to use my regular headphones. I would like RIM to improve this in the next version of the product.

While you probably won't find a "perfect" multi-purpose phone ever, this one comes pretty close.

4 out of 5 stars I love my Blackberry   December 24, 2007

I love this phone. I've had the Pearl for almost 1 year now and its a great phone. I have to admit my previous phone was basic and no-frills so I went from one extreme to the other. I love getting my email, synchronizing my calendar on my computer with my phone, picking ringtones from my favorite songs and going online. I can't tell you how having this phone filled my down time while waiting at the doctor's office. I'm always on CNN.com keeping abreast of what's happening in the world. I do wish it had a full QWERTY keyboard and could play videos. Those are the 2 big negatives, but overall a great choice!!
